Agnes Sullivan MS Psychological Counselling and Psychotherapy
L.C.S.W. BACP Accred. Clinical Supervisor
Certified Schema Therapist and Schema Therapy Trainer
Agnes Sullivan addresses her therapeutic work with great precision and care and
is a warm, compassionate and highly skilled practitioner having mastered 20+ years
of experience in ego psychology, individual, adult, child, family, group, couples
work, and parenting support groups. She obtained her MSW from Fordham University
in New York and a Masters Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University
of Surrey in England. She is currently engaged in completing doctoral research at
Walden University, and is a member of the International Society for Schema Therapy
(ISST).
Her work has been highly influential in raising awareness of effective treatments
for individuals with destructive behaviours and hard to treat problems. She trained
as one of 12 international trainees directly under Dr. Jeffrey Young in New York.
Using Schema Therapy, Agnes has seen some dramatic changes and benefits for her
patients. For example: a female patient diagnosed with recurrent Major Depressive
Disorder and severe anxiety with a history of alcohol problems, "non-responsive"
to all classes of antidepressants has moved from being unable to leave the safety
of her home to full time work and stable loving relationships with her children.
A leading practitioner in Atlanta, New York and London, Agnes now runs counselling
and training organisations in all three cities. Her practice has become international
and she is certified to train others in using this very structured, collaborative
form of therapy designed to address hard to treat cases - to be used in outpatient
as well as inpatient practice environments. Working part of her time at Peachford
Behavioural Health (www.peachfordhospital.com),
Agnes additionally has 18+ years experience in education and training and is the
director of the Schema Training Center for London (www.stil.org), with the Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Center
of New York).
Agnes instructs/supervises clinicians in further education, especially in Schema
Therapy, and in monitoring of patient outcomes and clinical effectiveness. She has
also been involved in initiating various government projects on domestic violence
and on addiction prevention both in the United States and in England. She is married
to Chris Sullivan and has three children, Stacey, Fabien and Rebecca.
