Group therapy is a highly effective alternative to individual therapy for those
who prefer to explore their own issues and difficulties in relationships among others
who are working toward the same ends. Groups can be of particular benefit to those
who were isolated in childhood, or who find themselves cut off from others by virtue
of their present circumstances (such as being self-employed and working from home),
or for individuals who struggle when it comes to being open with others.
Groups provide healing by:
- Change problem behavior
- Reducing isolation
- Modelling
- Support
- Understanding for corrective emotional experiences
Groups also can be very effective for individuals who struggle with power dynamics
in the workplace as the group setting provides individuals with a chance to test
out more effective behaviour in a safe environment.
Each group consists of up to 9 - 10 people. Sessions last for 1.5 hours. A group
therapist is present at all times to facilitate the process. The fees work out to
less than a quarter of the cost of individual therapy and groups are run on weekday
evenings, which, makes attendance easier for those with work commitments.
